2015, Revista Clinica EspanolaInfluence of age and intensity of treatment on intra-ICU mortality of patients older than 65 years admitted to the intensive care unit
2012, European Geriatric MedicineCitation Excerpt :This finding correlates well with results from studies that have assessed survival of elderly patients submitted to intensive treatment for acute myocardial infarction. Some studies have shown that coronary reperfusion, the cornerstone of acute myocardial infarction treatment, whether with thrombolysis or with primary angioplasty, does not offer any survival benefit for patients aged over 75 [15,16]. Nevertheless, others have shown that, although the benefit of aggressive strategies for elderly patients, such as early coronary revascularization has improved their outcome, survival is lower than in younger patients [17–20].
