2022, Progress in Materials ScienceCitation Excerpt :In addition, this high mechanical strength of the metal allows a significant reduction of the strut size to improve the clinical efficacy. Many studies have reported that a stent with thinner struts can decrease the adverse effects such as restenosis, LLL, and neointimal hyperplasia compared to those of a stent with thicker struts [314–316]. However, the permanent caging of the vessel of a patient with a non-degradable metallic stent after implantation is inevitable, and the stent acts as a support for plaque, causing an increase in the ISR incidence.
