Bioactive lipid regulation of platelet function, hemostasis, and thrombosis
2023, Pharmacology and TherapeuticsRegulation of platelet function and thrombosis by omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids
2018, Prostaglandins and Other Lipid MediatorsCitation Excerpt :Several interventional studies were reviewed by Begg et al. and largely concluded that ω-3 PUFAs may provide a clinical benefit, but the degree and nature of ω-3 PUFA cardioprotection remains unclear [89]. Thrombosis, like many of the other endpoints examined in ω-3 PUFA-oriented clinical trials, also shows mixed results [86,90–93]. Although supplementation of ω-3 PUFAs has been shown to reduce platelet aggregation and activation in healthy subjects, a higher than recommended dose of ω-3 PUFAs may be needed due to platelet hyperactivite prothrombotic conditions such as in CVD.
