2013, International Journal of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :This is in keeping with the clinical observation that most ASD patients tend to develop symptoms at young adulthood when PAH occurs [20]. In aortic stenosis, the LV adapts to increased outflow resistance initially through an increase in wall thickness while a normal chamber volume is maintained [21–23]. The increase in wall thickness is often adequate to counter the high intracavitary pressure and as a consequence, LV systolic wall stress (an indicator of afterload burden) remains within the normal range, keeping the overall systolic function well preserved [24].
